Digital and analogue transcription
We can transcribe your notes from digital or analogue (micro/mini/standard tape) formats. You may wish to have a literal transcription which will include all the ‘ers’, ‘ums’, or you may require the transcription to be ‘intelligent verbatim’ which would be a representation and reflection of the meeting. Contact us for more information and advice.
It is acknowledged within the industry that a clear recording, digital or analogue will take approximately 4 times the length of the recording to transcribe. On average, a person will speak at the rate of 250 – 300 words per minute so for example, 15 minutes of speech recording would take 1 hour to transcribe.
There are several reasons why this may take longer such as:-
- The recording is unclear/muffled
- Several people speaking at the same time
- Positioning of the microphones
- Poor equipment
- Acoustics
We will be very happy to advise you on the best way for you to record your information so that it is clearly audible. Digital recorders particularly, offer very clear recordings, but, as for any recording device, it is important that the speakers are as clear as possible and talk one at a time. If there are a group of people e.g. Annual General meeting, it is preferable that each participant announces themselves prior to speaking.
Lenman Secretarial Solutions recommends using Olympus recorders. We are happy to lend these to you for a trial period.
